I know you have heard it before that Africans, both home and abroad need to work together for their common good. Well, that is exactly the message that must be repeated because there is no better alternative. If you carefully observe any other group of people or even other lower animals, you will see that they are able to make meaningful progress due to their ability to organize themselves and work together.

This is not simply a question of philosophy or based on the beauty of its concept. Every effort, resources, or knowledge that is not organized is as good as useless. Therefore, until the African people, home and abroad team up together to build a common front like other people, in smaller and in larger groups, they will remain the laughing stock and lowest of the world.

Effects of Disunity Among Africa

“If you look at the history of slavery,” said Monday Alade, a Nigerian-American activist, “one of the things that made slavery work was that the white slave masters were able to create disunity between and among Africans. So, that disunity created a condition where Africans were unable to come together as one people to fight for a common course,” he added.

Even after slavery and until date, the system of “divide and rule strategy” is still very much effective among the African people. There is no doubt about that. But it’s also true that the solution to come out from this quagmire rest solely on the same Africans, so they are going to find that solution because no one else is coming to save them.

Leadership in Africa

According to Alade, it all boiled down to the leadership in Africa. They have to begin to invest in the people, beyond mere theories. “These are the things that Indians, China, Japan, are all doing differently from us”.

Do we need a different Africa? Then, we need to be ready to make a change of attitude. Be ready to invest in our competent and human capital, so we can compete in the world. As a people, we need to learn to trust ourselves, tolerate one another, and build our internal networks of businesses and collaborations.

If we succeed and we will, we will save our name through our own effort.
