David Joseph Schwartz, Jr. was an American motivational writer and coach, best known for authoring The Magic of Thinking Big in 1959. He was a professor of marketing, chairman of the department, and Chair of Consumer Finance at Georgia State University.
Book – The Magic of Thinking Big David Schwartz
The Magic of Thinking Big, first published in 1959, is a self-help book and one of a kind. With well over 6 million copies sold, the central message of the book is to teach people about setting their goals higher and thinking positively to achieving them.
David Schwartz gives a step-by-step guide on how you can achieve what you want by changing your thought patterns and thought habits.
According to Schwartz, visualization adds value to everything and thinking big means training oneself to see not just what is, but what can be.
If you really think of it, this is a powerful strategy to prepare yourself for the future, to pursue your life purpose.
The Importance Of This Book
If you are wondering why we are here talking about this book, it’s also for what it stands for. Throughout this year 2020, our videos are centred on the key message of “Life Purpose” and what Schwartz covered in The Magic of Thinking Big just happens to be what we are driving into the minds of the people; the message of self-improvement so we can get the best out of our lives.

Adopt A Progressive Mind-Set
This is another important message you must pay good attention to here. In The Magic of Thinking Big, David Schwartz reduced the whole argument to the question of mindset. And mind-set according to mindset.com are “those collections of beliefs and thoughts that make up the mental attitude, inclination, habit or disposition that predetermines a person’s interpretations and responses to events, circumstances and situations.”
For example, successful people generally “think bigger”, they believe in themselves, have a larger scope of imagination, and see bigger possibilities ahead of them. This mind-set or their way of seeing reality then affects their behaviour in action and attitudes.
The Magic of Thinking Big is incredibly essential as a book because it carefully describes everything that makes people successful. And it covers such areas as philosophy, ambition, social behaviour, goal-setting, and leadership. So, this is a book you really want to consider reading if you are serious about your life purpose and you want to advance in life.
Now, let’s consider some actions we can take, building upon the recommendations of David Schwartz in this all-important book, The Magic of Thinking Big.
Stop Making Excuses
In one of our previous discussions (in January), we talked about excuses as the thief of time, so you are going to do yourself a favour by avoiding this old enemy because it does not mean anything good for you.
Unsuccessful people make excuses about why things haven’t worked out for them. For this, they blame their health, their relative, the witches and wizards in their country, the politicians, their age or their friends.
But you know what? Your excuses, no matter how rational and convincing they might be are actually irrelevant. Your excuses do not count, only results do.
The world today is full of men and women who give excuses so what we need right now are men and women who are willing to do the work and get the results so they don’t need to give excuses.
Be that man and that woman. Be result-oriented and never bank on the best excuse you can lay your hand on.
Build The Confidence Habit And Destroy Your Fear
At some point, we all face fear. It is perfectly fine to feel that fear and that is not the point. What is really important is this: “Are you going to allow the fear to immobilise you, to cripple your ambitions or face it head-on?”
Your fear can be a form of worry, tension, embarrassment, anxiety and panic. And what you should know in whichever way your fear manifests itself is that it has not come to help you, but to cripple you before your adversity and stop you from reaching your goals, and you don’t want that to happen. Do you?
And talking about fear, especially the fear of failure, which usually immobilises many people, you need to remember Dale Carnegie’s advice that you need to develop success from failures. “Discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success.” He added.
All successful people are aware of this and they know that their best weapon to conquer fear is confidence, and confidence is a habit anyone can develop, including you.
If you are afraid of something, consider isolating your specific fear so you can pinpoint what exactly is making you afraid. It’s only then that you can take some effective actions to conquer the fear because now, you know what you are in against.
Another important technique to conquering your fear is to learn how to think positively, to show confidence in the face of your adversity.
Do it all the same, even if you feel the fear in you. Soon, your fear will be under your control because you have decided to face it and now you can see through it.
Your Take Away From This Book
This is The Magic of Thinking Big and it gives you several starting points to develop and strengthen the most important attribute of all successful people: “believing in yourself”.
You do not want to underestimate that, because no one will believe in you if you do not believe in yourself. Never forget that.
