Happy 63rd Independence Day, Nigeria!

Why are we still celebrating Nigerian independence? Should we be doing this despite the odds and the suffering of the people? Well, I can assure you that as a Nigerian who lives in Europe, I am not particularly happy with what my country has become but it’s still my country and there is no condition to that.

So, yes, as we celebrate the 63rd year of our great nation’s independence, we may be facing challenges that test our patience and resilience. Yes, our journey has been marked by moments of frustration and disappointment, but there are three powerful reasons why we must continue to celebrate our beloved Nigeria, also because we have no other country than Nigeria:

1.  Resilience Amidst Adversity:

Despite the hardships we face, Nigerians are known for their indomitable spirit and unyielding resolve. We have weathered countless storms, stood strong in the face of adversity, and emerged even more resilient.

Our ability to persevere through tough times is a testament to the strength and tenacity of our people. Countless challenges, from the civil war of 1960, corruption, and bad leadership, just to name a few, have tried to break our spirit but we are still here as a country.

This is something worth celebrating, for it is the backbone of our nation today and for a brighter future that will come.

2. Unity in Diversity:

Nigeria is a mosaic of cultures, languages, and traditions, making it one of the most diverse nations in the world. Our unity amid this diversity is a source of pride, even though some bad elements might be using it against us.

We must remember that our differences are what make us strong. It is the very combination of our various ethnicities and backgrounds that enriches our culture and heritage.

Celebrating our independence reaffirms our commitment to fostering unity and understanding among all Nigerians, at home and abroad.

3. Hope for a Brighter Future:

Despite the challenges of the present, we must never lose sight of the promise of a brighter future. Our nation is blessed with abundant resources, a vibrant youth population, and immense potential waiting to be correctly channeled.

By coming together, working hand in hand, and holding our leaders accountable, we can steer Nigeria towards a prosperous future. Independence Day serves as a reminder of the possibilities that lie ahead and the hope that fuels our aspirations.

Dear fellow Nigerians, let this Independence Day be a day of reflection, a day to acknowledge our struggles, but also a day to embrace our strengths and opportunities. Let us continue to demand good governance, accountability, and transparency from our leaders. Together, we can overcome the challenges that stand in our way and build a Nigeria we can truly be proud of.

So, as we celebrate our 63rd Independence Day, let us do so with hearts full of hope and determination. Let us remember that the spirit of Nigeria resides within each of us, and together, we can shape a brighter tomorrow for our nation.

Happy Independence Day, Nigeria!
