Why This Journey Matters

Trip Itinerary

Morning:

We begin in the historic heart of Verona, exploring the Roman Arena, Roman therter, Piazza delle Erbe, and Porta Borsari—not just as monuments, but as living storytellers. Expert guides bring ancient Verona to life, focusing on its role as a crossroads of cultures, trade, and migration.

Afternoon:

We shift perspective: participants join a guided reflection session to explore Africa’s role in the Roman world—in millitary, in traders, and in spirituality. This sets the stage for reinterpreting the history we thought we knew.

Evening:

Welcome dinner featuring Verona-inspired cuisine with African touches. A space for sharing intentions and forming connections.

Morning:

We journey to the Basilica of San Zeno, one of Verona’s spiritual and architectural treasures. Here, we dive into the life of St. Zeno—bishop, miracle worker, and of his African origin. We explore what it means to have an African at the core of Verona’s spiritual heritage.

Afternoon:

Interactive workshop: “San Zeno and Me.” Participants journal, draw, or speak their reflections on identity, spirituality, and belonging. A local historian or theologian joins the session to deepen the conversation.

Evening:

Evening walk through Veronetta, reflecting on the visible and invisible traces of African presence, past and present. Optional spoken word or storytelling circle to close the day.

Morning:

Cultural blending in action: Participants engage in a cooking class combining Northern Italian and African dishes, transforming food into an instrument of cultural expression. This is not just food—it’s the story of movement, memory, and transformation.

Afternoon:

Final gathering: Each participant creates a “Heritage Statement”—a short personal reflection, poem, or journal entry capturing what they’re taking home.

Evening:

Closing ceremony and shared dinner. We celebrate not just what we’ve learned—but who we’ve become along the way
