Morning 

  • Arrival at Robert Mugabe International Airport (Harare): You will be met upon arrival by your expert local guide and transferred to Masvingo, the closest city to Great Zimbabwe (approximately 4-5 hours by road). 

Afternoon 

  • Hotel Check-in in Masvingo: After your journey, check into your accommodation, where you can relax and enjoy a comfortable stay. Get a taste of local hospitality and enjoy the serene environment of this charming town. 
  • Evening at Leisure: Explore the local area, perhaps enjoying a traditional meal of sadza (maize porridge), nyama (meat), and vegetables, or take a walk around the town to absorb the local culture.

  • Visit the Great Zimbabwe Ruins: Your adventure begins at the legendary Great Zimbabwe, one of the most awe-inspiring archaeological sites in Africa. You will explore the Hill Complex, Valley Complex, and Great Enclosure—remarkable stone structures that tell the story of a thriving civilization. 
  • The Hill Complex, perched atop a rocky hill, is believed to have been the royal residence and ceremonial space. 
  • The Great Enclosure is the largest ancient stone structure in sub-Saharan Africa, with 36-foot walls constructed without mortar, showing the engineering ingenuity of the Shona people. 
  • The Valley Complex represents the settlement area, housing the common people and serving as the commercial heart of the city.

  • Travel to Khami Ruins: After breakfast, you’ll drive to the Khami Ruins, another important archaeological site near Bulawayo (approximately 2-3 hours by road). Like Great Zimbabwe, Khami was the capital of a kingdom that thrived between the 15th and 18th centuries
  • The Khami Ruins are known for their well-preserved stone terraces, walls, and entrances. These ruins offer insight into the Stone Age architecture of the Torwa dynasty, a later civilization that succeeded the Great Zimbabwe Kingdom. 
  • Tour of Khami Ruins: Your guide will walk you through the ancient enclosures, stone-built structures, and ritual sites, revealing the advanced construction techniques and the role of the Khami civilization in the broader regional context.

  • Visit the National Museum of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo: Continue your cultural journey by visiting the National Museum of Zimbabwe, one of the largest and most comprehensive museums in the country. Here, you will find displays on the history of Zimbabwe, including the Shona civilization, pre-colonial artifacts, colonial history, and more.

  • Overnight in Bulawayo: After your visit to the museum, check in to your hotel in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second-largest city, known for its vibrant arts scene and colonial architecture.

Morning 

  • Visit Matobo National Park: After breakfast, head out to Matobo National Park (about 45 minutes from Bulawayo), home to some of the most important cultural and historical sites in Zimbabwe. 
  • Visit the Matobo Hills, which are believed to be the spiritual home of the Ndebele people. The park is also known for its unique rock formations and ancient rock art
  • You will explore the Ndebele cultural heritage, including visiting the graves of Cecil Rhodes, the founder of Rhodesia, at the World’s View lookout point. 

Afternoon 

  • Explore the Rock Paintings: The Matobo Hills are famous for their prehistoric rock paintings, some of which are over 6,000 years old. Your guide will explain the significance of these ancient artworks, which are believed to have been created by the San people
  • Cultural Immersion: Visit a local Ndebele village, where you will have the opportunity to meet the indigenous people, learn about their traditions, and experience their way of life.

  • Leisure and Shopping: Upon arrival in Harare, you will have some free time for souvenir shopping at local markets or exploring the city before your departure. The National Gallery of Zimbabwe and Mbare Market are great places to experience local art and culture. 
  • Transfer to Harare International Airport: In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
