Trip Highlights at a Glance

    Trip Itinerary

Touch down at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to Arusha. Settle in at your hotel. In the afternoon, explore Arusha’s markets or just relax after your flight. This evening enjoy a briefing over dinner (independent) about the journey ahead.

Accommodation: Dik Dik Hotel, Arusha – Bed & Breakfast.

After breakfast, drive north to Longido (~2 hrs from Arusha) for an authentic Maasai cultural visit. Visit a traditional Maasai boma (homestead), meeting elders, warriors and local families. Maasai women demonstrate how they build their round huts from mud, sticks and cow dung, and you may watch boys tending cattle.

Learn bead-making, join a Maasai dance or song, and hear stories of their traditions. In the afternoon, take a guided hike to a nearby waterfall or hilltop for panoramic views of the Rift Valley – you may even see wildlife like giraffes or zebras. Enjoy communal Maasai-style dining and storytelling around a campfire.

Accommodation: Kili View Maasai Lodge, Longido – Full Board.

Travel west through the Great Rift Valley toward Lake Natron. The drive offers sweeping views of acacia savanna and distant peaks. Arrive at your lodge near Engaresero village, with Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano looming overhead. In the late afternoon, take a gentle lake shore walk.

Lake Natron is famous as the breeding ground for up to 2 million lesser flamingos. A Maasai guide will explain the lake’s extreme alkaline ecology and local customs. Return to the lodge for dinner as the sun sets over the volcano.

Accommodation: Maasai Giraffe Eco Lodge, Lake Natron – Full Board

Rise early for sunrise views over Lake Natron’s alkaline waters. Spend the day exploring with Maasai guides. Hike along the southern lake shores to see flamingos and other wetland birds up close.

Then venture into the Ngare Sero Gorge on a trek alongside the Saitoti River. Follow rock pools up to the Ngare Sero Waterfall – a beautiful oasis where you can swim in the plunge pool. Look for ancient hominin footprints etched in the rocks near Engare Sero. Return to the lodge by evening.

Accommodation: Maasai Giraffe Eco Lodge – Full Board.

After breakfast, depart Lake Natron and drive southeast toward Lake Manyara, arriving at Mto wa Mbu village. This cultural melting-pot is home to over 120 tribes and is known for its fertile farms and bustling market. Take a guided cultural tour through shops, banana and coffee plantations, and the community’s irrigation scheme.

Learn traditional beadwork or cooking, and even sample homemade banana beer. For more activity, cycle through the countryside past rice paddies and banana groves. In the evening, enjoy a performance of tribal drumming and dance.

Accommodation: Naibala Manyara Lodge – Full Board

Drive up to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in the early morning. Descend into the crater’s vast caldera for a full-day game drive. The Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the best places in Africa to see the Big Five in one setting. Spot black rhinos, lions, elephants, buffalo, and more. Enjoy a picnic lunch by a hippo pool, then ascend back to the rim in the late afternoon.

Accommodation: Octagon Lodge, Karatu – Full Board.

Depart Karatu and head southwest to Lake Eyasi, home to the Hadzabe hunter-gatherers and Datoga pastoralists. Spend the morning with the Hadzabe: accompany them on a demonstration of traditional hunting and gathering, fire-starting, and storytelling. In the afternoon, visit a Datoga village and observe blacksmiths forging iron tools. Enjoy a picnic by the lake and spot flamingos and other birds.

Accommodation: Lake Eyasi Safari Lodge – Full Board.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the lodge. Transfer directly to Kilimanjaro International Airport. Optional photo stops or cultural encounters en route.

    Meals: Breakfast included.
