Creative writing is a broad term that can be used to describe many different types of writing. It can be anything from poetry to screenplays and novels. Creative writing is an art form that has been around for centuries and millenniums, with some of the earliest examples dating back to the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans.

About The Guest: Cherie Jones

Cherie Jones is an award-winning author from Barbados. Her debut novel HOW THE ONE-ARMED SISTER SWEEPS HER HOUSE has been critically acclaimed by several publications including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and Washington Post, and is Good Morning America’s Book club pick for February, 2021.

Cherie’s past publication credits include PANK, The Feminist Wire and Eclectica. She is a past fellowship awardee of the Vermont Studio Centre and a recipient of the Archie Markham Award and A.M.

Heath Prize from Sheffield Hallam University (UK) where she completed an MA in Writing with distinction in 2015. Her first short story collection was published by Peepal Tree Press in 2004 and another won a prize in the Frank Collymore Literary Endowment Awards in 2016.

Cherie is currently working on a collection of flash fiction based on parts of the body and a new novel set on a cacao plantation in Trinidad in the middle of the 19th century. Cherie lives in Barbados with her children where, in addition to her writing, she works as a lawyer and indulges her passion for chocolate.
